I graduated with honors in 1975 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tennessee. I was a drawing major with an emphasis in printmaking in which I won a third place award at the Dogwood Area Art Show. I took several painting classes under Prof. Clark Stewart, Prof. Stevens and Prof. Whitney Leland and was introduced to watercolor under Carl Sublett while at the University. I didn't actively start painting in watercolor until I took a class under Betsy Worden in 1987. After a couple of years painting with Betsy's group, I took some classes in watercolor offered through the Tennessee Artist Association. I was accepted into the Art Market Gallery in 1987. I am also a member of the Knoxville Watercolor Society. Recent juried art exhibitions include the Artscapes juried art show in 2001, 02 and 03, 05; The Dogwood Area Art Show in 2001, 02, 03, and 04 in which I won an honorable mention; The Art Market Gallery juried art show in 2002, and 2003, 2004, 2005 and the Oak Ridge Art Center juried art show in 2002 and 2003, 2005 in which I won an honorable mention. The Farragut Arts Council juried show, 2002, 2003, 2005.
Commissioned paintings occupy a great deal of my time. I enjoy the challenge of the projects, the chance to meet new clients and the oft time opportunities for travel that some jobs entail. Experiences from my travels, particularly in the people I come in contact with, have a great deal of influence on my paintings. Exploring the human form and expressing the many images of life offer a rich diversity for experimentation in color, texture, and form.
